About Sharon Zavalanski

Sharon Zavalanski sat for and passed the CPA exam in December 1989 and then started her tax career working with USAirways, Inc, in the tax department. She was tasked with the preparation of sales and use tax returns; federal and state income tax returns; tax audit representation, as well as other business taxes such as fuel, excise, gross receipts, business license, personal property taxes, and miscellaneous industry taxes. In 1992, Sharon resigned from her position at USAirways to start a family. Shortly thereafter, she became partner and treasurer for a steel fabrication company. In 1997, she lived in England while her husband worked in London, and she added the international tax experience to her resume. In 2011, she stepped in as interim CFO for an airline catering company to reorganize and restructure the entire accounting department. Over the years, she has taught Accounting courses at Northern Virginia Community College. Currently, she is the treasurer of a very successful seafood restaurant in Virginia.Sharon’s forte is navigating tax issues with small businesses and individuals. She continues to practice as a CPA providing services for the preparation of federal and state income tax returns; payroll tax returns; sales and use taxes; and personal property tax returns. She is also well versed in audit and review of company financial statements; federal, state and insurance audit representation, and she is a QuickBooks Pro Advisor. The relentless commercials where companies promise to settle your tax debt with the IRS for pennies on the dollar did not sit well with Sharon. What those commercials do not tell you is that they want thousands of dollars to take your case, only for them to complete two forms to submit to the IRS. Sharon recognized an opportunity to share her tax knowledge and founded Rail33. She published an instructional booklet designed to assist taxpayers with navigating an “offer in compromise.” Rail33 is able to save taxpayers thousands by providing the resources and information to complete two forms themselves with an easy-to-use instructional booklet. The business model proved extremely successful, and Sharon and the team at Rail33 are proud to be able to offer taxpayers a simple option to settle a tax debt. Sharon has published her first of three books in her trilogy, “His, Hers & the Truth. The Three Sides to Every Tax Return” under her pen name, Z. Michael Shadney.
