EMC2, Inc. was formed in 1979. The company founder, William Dupree, worked at the General Motors Technical Center and was instrumental in the development of In-mold Coating (IMC) in the Fisher Body Research Group. In-mold coating was a required process necessary to allow plastic automotive body panels (Corvette) to be painted in existing automotive paint facilities. EMC2 is the primary global supplier of this technology even today. EMC2 developed additional adhesive dispensing products (pumps, guns, heated hoses, mixers, etc.) and combined them into systems. Customers include: Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM’s), boat manufacturers, plastic component manufacturers, automotive sun-roof manufacturers and many general industry companies (bowling balls, solar panels, sonar systems, hydrogen fuel cells). EMC2 has further increased our resume (and need for manufacturing floor space) by expanding into automated application of adhesive, utilizing robots. We are certified integrators for Fanuc, ABB and Kuka; three of the largest industrial robot companies in the world. EMC2’s knowledge of dispensing is highly regarded by chemical companies and we are often referred by these companies to the industrial customer. These companies include 3M, Dow, Ashland, Lord, and EMS Chemie. In 2014, EMC2 was licensed by 3M to provide spray rigs for 3M’s Scotchkote products. Based on the strong growth EMC2 has experienced in its history, we have continuously expanded our facilities. In March 2014 EMC2 we moved from Sterling Heights, MI to our new headquarters facility in Auburn Hills, MI.
