About Shaun Catlin

A little about me: Previous to my experience as a designer, I was a contractor for over 15 years. My business serviced residential, commercial, and government clients. While our jobs were focused mostly in the Portland Metro Area and the Oregon Coast, we also took on some small commercial jobs in 8 other US states. Some of our clients included: Portland Metro, The Oregon Zoo, Oregon Convention Center, Portland Parks Department, Portland International Airport, Gresham School District, Astoria Parks Department, Natural Grocers, New Seasons Market, The Oregon Department of Revenue, and many others. In 2018 I closed down my business and went back to school to get a degree in architecture. Since then, I have graduated with an Associate degree in Architecture and am now a student at the Boston Architectural College in an accredited B-ARCH program. Since closing down my construction business I have been a full-time freelance designer for 5 years now helping clients with prototyping, design, construction documents, permitting, and project administration in 19 US states as well as abroad in Canada, Australia, Estonia, Saudi Arabia, and France. I'm great at working within reasonable timelines. My time as a contractor has really conditioned me to plan for and meet deadlines in an efficient manner. I'm great with written, verbal and visual communication, whether it’s emailing clients, leading meetings, site walks, drafting, or graphics. I feel I have a very strong ability to understand where people are at in terms of design thinking ability and meet them where they are to better convey concepts and plans. I am also an avid note taker and organizer. In terms of software, I am most comfortable using AutoCAD, Sketchup, Enscape, and Photoshop as I use these programs nearly every day in my freelance design business, however I am also familiar with Revit, Rhino, V-ray, Twinmotion, Forte, and of course Microsoft Office.
