About Shaun Kestner

I am a Command Senior Enlisted Leader in the United States Navy. I excel in authentic, courageous, competent leadership and foundational mentorship to the Sailors, Marines, and Midshipmen that comprise the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps unit, The Citadel. I believe in self-improvement and putting forth my best effort every day and in every situation in order to make sound decisions that support the team and the organization’s mission. When I am not providing principled, senior enlisted advisement I can be found playing with my two daughters, spending time with my wife, going on a long-distance run, or watching baseball. I am an avid Kansas City Royals fan and aspire to one day work with small-market Major League Baseball teams to create competitive organizations that increase fanbase support and excel in community outreach. My definition of leadership is: Being selfless in action and humble in presence while acting conscientiously with courage of deed. My personal values of leadership are: • Selflessness – The cause or mission outweighs self. • Humility – Modesty of my own importance and realizing the importance of others around me. • Conscientiousness – Doing what is best for the common good, doing the right thing all the time. • Courage – Not deviating from the cause; a firm foundation for my convictions. My personal mission statement is: To be firm in my convictions but fair in my responses while treating everyone with decency and respect. I strive to cultivate a continuous culture of personal and professional growth for self, family, and reports by exemplifying actions for educational, mental, spiritual, and physical development.
