About Shauni Doms

I’m a postdoctoral researcher currently studying the coevolution of the mammalian host with its associated microbiota. I’m hoping to transition from academia to industry soon. My Ph.D. research has equipped me with invaluable skills in the analysis of diverse datasets, as well as performing wet-lab processing of samples. This experience has specifically enhanced my proficiency in handling and interpreting 16S rRNA gene sequencing data, metagenomics, genotyping data, statistical methodologies, and (10X) genomics data, as evidenced in my publication “Key features of the genetic architecture and evolution of host-microbe interactions revealed by high-resolution genetic mapping of the mucosa-associated gut microbiome in hybrid mice.” As a postdoctoral researcher, I spearheaded projects following up on the results generated by my Ph.D. project to unravel the evolutionary dynamics between hosts and microbiota. I gained expertise in pan-genomics and microbial genomics, GWAS of metagenomics, and (meta-)transcriptomics. In addition to my research endeavors, I have demonstrated leadership skills through successfully supervising students in the completion of their theses. This experience has allowed me to guide and mentor emerging researchers, further enhancing my ability to lead and inspire teams. Beyond research, I have dedicated efforts to teaching microbiome analysis to master and Ph.D. students, organized workshops, and supervised projects. This experience highlights my ability to communicate complex scientific findings effectively, making me well-suited to translate intricate materials for marketing and commercial teams.
