Based in Hong Kong, Shawn Chen leads SSQ’s China business in two offices - Beijing and Shanghai and focuses on brokering law firm mergers/alliances and placing partners and teams within the China/HK private practice market. Some of Shawn's recent work: Law Firm Mergers/Alliances and Legal Market Consulting • Assisted five international law firms in establishing their official partnerships with regional local law firms - from exploring legitimate partnership routes, due diligence on partnership firms to obtaining official approvals of the partnership relationships • Helped a leading international law firm set up their strategic alliance with a large Chinese law firm, including the search for best alliance targets, preparation of alliance documents and application to PRC authority for the alliance approval • Advising two Chinese government authorities on their policymaking for the legal and professional service sector Launching New Office and Practice • Guided two foreign law firms to open new offices in China - from formulating business plans to obtaining regulatory approval of practicing licenses • Helped an international law firm launch an IP consultancy business and legal entity in China • Supported a leading UK law firm in extending their international alternative and low-cost legal services into China Partner and Team Acquisitions • An international law firm acquired two teams from another international law firm’s China offices to set up new practice areas in Beijing and Shanghai • A leading UK law firm took a senior partner and their teams from a leading Chinese law firm for launching a Beijing office • A top Chinese law firm hired the China Office Head of an international law firm to lead a new practice group
