As you are well aware today's economy has created some unique challenges and opportunities for owners and executive teams. In the historical view employee and team management, dispersed and remote work teams were not as common as they are today. Fortunately, I have had the opportunity to build and manage remote, work-from-home, and dispersed teams. Typically, remote teams have been project specific and monitored within the guidelines of an organization's project and software development lifecycle methodologies be they waterfall or agile. Managing remote and dispersed teams as standard operations brings a whole new set of challenges and opportunities. Creating new workplace operations that focus on the people is a primary requirement for successful process implementation - regardless of the softwares that are used as the operational tool and communication medium. The challenge for managers, directors, and executives, is navigating the new opportunities as a strategic initiative instead of a tactical response to risk.
