About Shayla Bennett

Shayla has a bachelor’s degree in print journalism from Georgia State University and was part of the Fall 2003 class of the Washington Center for Politics and Journalism which helped start her career as a reporter at the Washington Times newspaper and InSight on the News magazine. After a brief stint in journalism Shayla returned to her alma mature to work for the School of Social Work in the area of child welfare where she served on the State of Georgia Consortium for Child Welfare on the policy and practice subcommittee. Outside of work Shayla served a year as the education chair for the DeKalb County Chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness where she is also a certified Family to Family instructor. Once she completed her master’s degree in Public Administration at Valdosta State University Shayla moved from child welfare to prevention where she currently works as a member of Georgia State University of School of Social Work’s Community Initiative Task Force and technical assistance coach for the state of Georgia Strategic Prevention Framework State Incentive Grant.
