Background
About Shayla Bowles
I am an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation. I was born and raised in Utah. In high school I was very busy participating in various clubs and organizations. The greatest of my achievements has been participating in the Governing Youth Council for five years and the American Red Cross for three years. I made it to the top ten for Miss Teen Utah in 2004. After graduating high school, I became licensed in Cosmetology and obtained a Master of Esthetics. With my license I worked at SalonCentric, a professional wholesale supplier, for six years, where I learned how to manage and operate a retail store. I furthered my education by attending the University of Utah and received my Bachelors of Science in Business Administration in the fall of 2013. I have lived in Okinawa, Japan for 4 years as an Air Force Spouse. While there, I volunteered for 2 military nonprofit organizations, the Air Force spousal community, and to the local Japanese community. In 2017, I finished my first year at the University of Utah, SJ Quinney College of Law and transferred to the Arizona State University, Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law where I graduated in May 2020 with my Juris Doctorate. I began my legal career at Peebles Kidder Bergin and Robinson LLP, a law firm that specializes in federal Indian and tribal law. There, I gained over 4 years of experience providing legal counsel services to various tribal housing authorities and tribal schools. Particularly, I provided services on contracts for construction, development, and personnel; drafted everything from tribal codes, policies and procedures, to various client correspondences; and prepared for and litigated civil matters in tribal court. Since then, I have moved to SLC/Draper, UT and transitioned to an of counsel attorney role with Dragonfly Law Group PC. I'm currently looking for additional full time attorney opportunities within Native American law either in SLC, UT or via remote work. I have training in Federal Procurement Requirements from HUD and litigation training from the National Institute of Trial Advocacy. I'm currently admitted to practice law in Arizona, Washington, North Dakota, the Navajo Nation, and several tribal courts. I will be applying for admission to the Utah State Bar via the July 2025 UBE exam.
