About Shaylin Allison
Aaniin!I am Anishinaabe and Korean from Garden River First Nation, and I am passionate about Indigenous art, communications, and community building. I am currently pursuing my master's degree in art history and visual studies at the University of Victoria, where my SSHRC-funded research examines contemporary Anishinaabe women's art-making as a powerful form of resistance. I also work as a research assistant on The Fireweed Project, an Indigenous public health project, and as a teaching assistant in the department of art history and visual studies. Additionally, I currently serve as an advisory member on the BCMA's 2SLGBTQIA+ Cultural Professionals Network and am working towards my 200-hour yoga teacher certification whilst maintaining my own artistic practice through beading. I have over three years of experience in conducting and supporting academic research, writing, and teaching in the contexts of Indigenous research methodologies.
