About Sheeba S. Manoharan-Basil

I am a Scientific Fellow at the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp (ITM), where I support and enhance the academic and research capacity of the unit. I hold a PhD in Biology with specialisation in Molecular Genetics and Bioinformatics from the University of Iceland, and have over 15 years of experience working with next-generation sequencing (NGS) data. My work includes the discovery of a lichen, Peltigera islandica. My core competencies include NGS library preparation and, NGS data analysis. I have applied these skills to various applications, such as genome assembly and annotation, metagenomics, comparative genomics, epigenomics, transcriptomics, SNP identification, metabolic pathway reconstruction, phylogenomics, and antimicrobial resistance analysis. I have worked with different NGS platforms, such as 454, Illumina, Nanopore, and Pacbio. I’m acquanited with various ICT tools, such as Linux, Unix, Bash, Bioperl, Biopython, R, and Nextflow. My mission is to use my expertise to further the understanding and treatment of bacterial diseases and to contribute to the global health community.
