Garnish with ambition, whilst preserving the core. A film professional with a diverse skill set of creativity, technical prowess and managerial acumen is ready! Born in a Himalayan town to a refugee family of the Indo-Pak exodus, I grew up with stories of unparalleled resilience. As a teen, I began writing my own for the local media. Over the years, I explored various forms of storytelling, eventually gravitating towards film so I could express myself through a melange of other art forms. After completing my studies in film editing at one of the most prestigious film schools globally, I worked on a wide range of projects for different production houses in the Indian film industry; moving between Filmfare awards, viral ads and LGBTQIA+ advocacy. This helped me develop an enterprising nature and expand my network with clients worldwide. While revelling in the uniqueness of digital-born works; I remained committed to preserving the magic of celluloid and went on to assist on a restoration project at the George Eastman Museum in the US. This helped me establish my voice in the then nascent film preservation landscape of India. By this point I had transformed from a reticent art school nerd into a people person with a pocketful of proprietary jokes. Then came the plot twist. I got married and ended up packing my bags and dreams for a cross-continental adventure. The post-pandemic film exhibition space in the UK was picking up. I started freelancing as a programmer and seeing the impact of my craft from an audience’s perspective. The story would have been over at this point if only it was happily ever after. However, after a churning experience, I luckily found a fresh start in a nice, warm seat at the top floor of MUBI’s London office. Geared with lived experience, a new story of resilience, a variety of skills, and a wealth of exposure collaborating with a range of international stakeholders - distributors, programmers, and third party streaming platforms; I now understand the entire lifecycle of a film - from conception to exhibition. And, perhaps, of life itself :) Here for learning opportunities; mobilising a crew for personal projects; making noble friends in the industry and sharing film, music and food recommendations.
