About Shefali Patel

I’m a mathematics and statistics educator with over 15 years of experience across high school and higher education, with a growing focus on assessment development, course improvement, and curriculum support. I enjoy looking closely at how students learn, where they struggle, and how courses and assessments can be refined to make learning more clear, rigorous, and meaningful. I currently serve as a Subject Matter Expert in Mathematics for Prometric, where I write and review assessment items for exams in statistics, algebra, and business mathematics. My work includes blueprint alignment, form review, and standard-setting to ensure exams are accurate, fair, and aligned to competency expectations. I also teach mathematics and statistics at Southern New Hampshire University in a competency-based program, where I work closely with course materials and assessments and use student performance data to provide feedback that supports course improvement. Previously at Strayer University, I contributed to course updates and assessment revisions while teaching mathematics and statistics, helping refine assignments and instructional materials to better align with learning outcomes. Earlier in my career, I served as Director of the Center for Academic Success at Berkeley College, where I worked with faculty and administrators to improve student outcomes through program support, data review, and academic initiatives. My background also includes teaching high school mathematics in New York City, which shaped my interest in building curriculum that develops strong foundations and prepares students for more advanced work. I’m especially interested in assessment development, curriculum writing, and instructional design, particularly in math, statistics, and data literacy.
