About Sheldon Simon

In December, 2022, I founded Third Gear Investments to combine 40 years as an investor in energy with interest in energy access and the march to carbon neutrality. We launched the Third Gear Integrated Energy Fund in September 2023.I joined Adage Capital in 2002, shortly after it spun out of Harvard Management Company and worked there as analyst/portfolio manager for 19 years, 14 of them as a partner. Prior to Adage, I spent 18 years at Putnam Investments. Over that time, I built deep expertise in energy infrastructure, utilities and the complexity of energy transition. As an active board member, thought leader, and mentor, I connect with institutions who create meaningful change on issues of personal importance. My focus has been sustainability, medical research, public health and higher education. I have also been able to relay the views of prominent institutional investors to company management teams and their boards.I served as the Advisory Board Chair for Boston University’s Institute for Sustainable Energy from 2015-2022. I am currently the Advisory Board Chair for BU’s Institute for Global Sustainability. Past board work has included Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and the Netter Center for Community Partnerships at the University of Pennsylvania. In the area of women’s cancers, I founded and served as chair of the Men’s Collaborative to Cure Women’s Cancers which supports the women’s cancers program at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
