About Shelley Foo

I am a graduate of NYU's Gallatin School of Individualized Study, where I concentrated in a Cultural and Scientific Approach to Music. Sounds made up? Well, that's because it is. What all that is is a fancy name for the unique interdisciplinary program I designed during my matriculation at university in order to meet my specific interests, namely music, fandoms, identity, and East Asian studies. With my coursework, I hope to someday pursue a career in the music and entertainment industry. Particularly, my passion is in Asian media and entertainment, and I am always looking for proactive ways to bring greater exposure to what is still underexplored or niche in Western media. Going against traditional major systems not only gave me the chance to explore various foundations, it also endowed me with the set of skills needed to be independent and responsible for my own growth. This is how I was able to find myself at a nonpaid position at Kultscene, where I discovered my own voice and sharpened my writing; and how I was able to take on tutoring positions, where my leadership and years of academia were put to the test. I thrive best when entrepreneurship is fundamental to the cause. When I am not in my professional mode, you can find me getting creative with my hands, whether that be journaling, handlettering, baking, or working on an art project. I am obsessed with networking and social media, so maintaining cultural fluency is never a problem. And if you love K-pop as much as I do, we will probably, most likely be best friends.
