About Shelley Sutter

Currently, I serve as Counselor (tenure-track) for the Health Education Department (HED) at Kaua'i Community College. The programs in HED include Nursing, Medical Assisting and Early Childhood Education. These programs are the most prestigious and rigorous on the island. Last year the Nursing Program earned continued accreditation through 2025 and Medical Assisting was accredited this year. Collaborate with colleagues in HED to develop best practices for individual program needs. Attended Integrated Student Services by Achieving the Dream in New Orleans October 2017. Serve on various committees including Curriculum Committee and Integrated Student Support. Previously, I served as the Senior Academic Advisor, tenured faculty member, Office Manager and Test Administrator at St. Johns River State College (SJR State). In May 2016 I achieved a career milestone, winning the Student Services Professional Award for the State of Florida. My career in higher education began at the University of Colorado at Boulder and continued at SJR State. I began working at SJR State in 2005. My responsibilities include academic advising, conducting New Student Orientations, high school campus visits, transcript evaluations for transfer students, academic completion plans to comply with financial aid, high school visits, group advising, and career counseling. I am accomplished in the use of BANNER, DegreeWorks, and GradesFirst programs. In an effort to increase student success/retention, I initiated a curriculum for students that had been academically suspended. Before my employment at SJR State, I was the Assistant Director for Career Planning at the University of Colorado at Boulder, I developed numbers programs from inception, including a career hotline, resume referral service, and the computerization of on-campus recruitment. I was responsible for training professional-level career counselors, graduate student interns, and the Career Resource Center.
