About Sheree Gibson

Encouraging individuals to recognise their strengths, uplifting them in times of adversity, and advocating for justice have always come as naturally to me as breathing. Caring for others is in my bones. Currently in my final semester of pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in psychology, and minors in education and sociology, my aspiration is to continue my studies to become a practicing psychologist. I hold a profound interest in somatic and mindfulness practices, and after experiencing their transformative benefits firsthand, I have been actively working towards obtaining certification as a recognised yoga and breathwork teacher. During the years leading up to the realisation that my career path lay in helping others, I acquired invaluable skills while progressing through senior positions in the hospitality industry and engaging in various volunteer roles. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are among my greatest strengths, enabling me to connect and build rapport with individuals from diverse backgrounds, facilitate open and clear dialogue, and adeptly resolve conflicts. I have honed my leadership abilities and possess excellent problem-solving, organisational, and time management skills. I hold a deep appreciation for the not-for-profit sector, and driven by my desire to make meaningful contributions, I completed a certificate program in not-for-profit administration and management in 2021. My values permeate and inspire all aspects of my life. I continuously cultivate my sociocultural awareness, and cultural competency, and am always seeking out opportunities for learning and growth. I hold deep respect for papatūānuku and all her inhabitants, which has led me to embrace a vegan lifestyle and strive for sustainable living practices for many years. I have found so much joy in my academic journey, beyond even my own expectations, and I eagerly anticipate the future that lies ahead.
