Publications include Meanings of Nudity in Medieval Art (Ashgate, 2012); Agency, Visuality and Society at the Chartreuse de Champmol (Ashgate, 2008) and essays in Gesta, Manuscripta, Studies in Iconography, Winterthur Portfolio, Source, and in anthologies on manuscripts, gender and architecture, collecting and display of medieval art, court art and Burgundian art. Currently working on a large project on attitudes towards artistic imagery in late medieval Europe, especially regarding unorthodox, heretical and obscene imagery. Specialties: Medieval and Northern Renaissance visual culture, artistic identity, gender, theories of perception, illuminated manuscripts, early printing, medievalism, art historical method, and the history of museums.
