About Sherwin Kwong

I graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Alberta majoring in Biological Sciences and a minor in German Language and Literature in 2013. I continued my studies in the Faculty of Education studying Secondary Education, completing my second degree in 2015. I am interested in teaching a variety of science courses and German. Upon graduation, I worked as the Recruitment Services Coordinator with University of Alberta International before heading back to the classroom. In October of 2016, I began my teaching career with Edmonton Public Schools at Allendale Junior High teaching German, Science, Yoga, and other courses. In that time, I had the opportunity to coach badminton and volleyball, lead the GSA, supervise and chaperone students on a three-week German exchange, and work as the lead languages teacher. During my time at Allendale, I also prepared students to write the Deutsches Sprachdiplom I test in grade 9. I covered a leave Acting for the Language and Culture Programs consultant with the division, supporting languages teachers with professional learning, resources, and coaching. I am currently at Strathcona High School teaching German Language Arts, German Language and Culture, and Science courses. At Strathcona, I’ve prepared students for the AP German Language and Culture exam as well as the Deutsches Sprachdiplom II. Outside of the classroom I help with the GSA and am one of the teacher sponsors the badminton team. When I am not working, I am spending my time playing in community bands and orchestras, bouldering, staying fit, drinking delicious coffee, and reading.
