About Shikar Rajcomar

I'm an engineer who has been recently pivoted into the Data science space during the last 4 years with experience in consulting and research environments. Practicing as an engineer I refined my skills in Research, consulting, process optimization, Data Modelling, Data Analysis, Writing and Presentation. I started my career as a consultant engineer working on many local and international projects, whilst working on these projects I noticed how critical data can be to drive decisions giving you the confidence to back up any decisions made. The more I worked the more I realized the value in data. Gone were the days of using gut feeling now you can put your hand on your heart and make decisions solely based on the fact provided by data. As a consulting engineer, my team and I were able to help many companies achieve efficiency improvements through unlocking the value of having accurate real-time information which is often overlooked by many firms. The data journey is not an easy journey many people get bogged down by the initial data sanitization of any data project. However, as an analytical person, I find this to be one of my biggest strengths being able to easily identify patterns and outliers in data, mining away at mountains of data until the true value is realized for business. It’s this passion I have for data that has made me shift career paths into becoming a data scientist. I have recently embarked on studying towards to a master’s degree focusing deep learning to use data to help automate many tasks faced in today’s society. Things I like to do: Using computer vision to help improve automation, if we want computers to think we need to teach them to see Transforming unstructured datasets into structured pieces of art(flat tables); Identifying patterns and outliers in large datasets Squeezing as much value as possible out of smaller datasets; Being able to make sense of quantitative results within a business context; presenting the results in a user friendly way through visualizations to tell a story of what a 100 spreadsheets would say Being able to tell the data story without using jargon to reach a wider audience
