About Shomit Mansur

As a Graduate Research Assistant at The University of Alabama, I am pursuing my PhD in Chemical Engineering with a focus on nanomedicine and drug discovery. I also hold an MS in Chemical and Biological Engineering from the same institution. My research project involves developing a novel magnetic nanoplatform for drug screening using cancer cell membranes and transmembrane receptors. I have successfully synthesized superparamagnetic nanoparticles with controlled size, shape, and surface chemistry, and prepared protocols for cell culture and membrane isolation from metastatic breast cancer cell lines. I have also proposed and implemented a drug screening platform that can identify highly specific and selective binders for different subtypes of breast cancer. Using magnetic ligand fishing and quantitative LC-MS, I have successfully identified small molecule drugs highly specific toward the target receptor. I have also investigated the anticancer effects of the identified drugs on cancer cells using different cell-based bioassays. My work has contributed to advancing the field of nanomedicine and drug design and has potential applications for personalized and targeted therapy.
