About Shonari Phillips

My name is Shonari Phillips, a first-generation Jamaican American who has a passion for the Visual Arts. My love began around my sophomore year of college when I got Photoshop for the first time through my colleges computer lab, at that point I decided to try my hand. At first I had no idea what I was doing but, as my interest grew I started looking up Youtube videos on certain techniques such as collages, and Double Exposure effects. Which allowed me to put the ideas that I have always had in my subconscious, and bring them into reality. But I wanted to push myself even further, so I began the venture into photography and videography. This is where my world opened up even more. I was able to use the pictures I have, to create new renditions that evoke different meaning and feelings. Also by creating videos I can enable storytelling and context that photography normally doesn't allow for.​ I have now begun my career into Graphic Design, the past 3 years I have gained the experience of multiple fields. I trained and work for over 2 years in Florida as a designer, as well as Production assistant. Working around heat presses, vinyl cutters, sublimation printers, dtf printers. As well during this time I was given the creative freedom to create garments, whether that be shirts, pants, suit ties, jackets. Shirt design would normally have to fit within a 12"x18" frame. But for special designs/orders we would use the dtf printer and apply the design that way. Those 2 years were very developmental for me. I was truly able to give myself a foothold in my creative state, enabling me to move onto a more structured/formal setting. My current occupation FastSigns in Indianapolis, where I now am apart of a close knit team that is currently the #1 in terms of sales, I have been the sole designer that creates graphics for an array of companies, both international and domestic. Ranging from Century 21, to Live Nation. I have a high understanding of file types, and vectored art. I was really able to have a solid understanding of Illustrator. Overall the Visual Arts is something that I am passionate about and will continue to be apart of my life for many years to come.
