About Shwetha Acharya

I am a meticulous and accomplished researcher with a decade of experience conducting research in academic settings around the world, looking at microbes in various environments ranging from wastewater systems to plant-microbe interactions. My expertise lies in water and wastewater quality analysis, microbial ecology and metagenomics, isolation and characterization of bacteria with emphasis on novel and difficult-to-culture microbes, and creation of synthetic communities (SynCom) for specific applications. My research training involves laboratory-based and computational work; conducting independent research and being part of multi-institutional collaboration. I am forever fascinated with the microbial world and passionate about harnessing microbial processes to create products that can transform the world. I am seeking opportunities to transition into the industry after a maternity break and am open to exciting roles in microbiome research in wastewater, plant, human gut, and allied areas.
