I'd be lying if I said I had always wanted to be a social media marketer. As a child, I wanted to be an inventor. I was one of those children who would rummage through the cupboards, mixing up concoctions and thinking I was going to be a kazillionaire. As I grew up, I realised that perhaps mixing sugar, washing up liquid and my mum's eyeshadow just wasn't a viable career path for me, and that was when I found the world of the internet. I remember making my first Piczo website. I enjoyed it so much, I made 35 more. Then it was Bebo, Myspace, Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter, Instagram. and when I was a real adult, my LinkedIn profile. The internet gives me a chance to share a voice that I always struggled to have; and share it to a much wider audience. It is this quality that I bring to my social media marketing. Marketing, whether it be in print or online, gives you the chance to share messages and information in ways you did not think possible. It gives you the freedom to let your creativity flow. I have been lucky enough to intern with The Staff Canteen, where I was able to interview some well known chefs, as well as the social media for Lush and now the marketing for Staffing Match. I can't wait to see where this journey takes me. I might not be the inventor that 6 year old Sian thought I would be, but I am channelling that same creativity into my new career path. I think she would be proud.
