About Sian Smith

I am currently studying the MA Law (SQE1) at The University of Law to pursue a new career path in the legal sector. I have over six years of experience in forensic science, a field that combines my passion for science, justice, and human rights. In my current role as FE Officer at Make Happen Essex, a collaborative network of universities and colleges, I develop strategic projects that aim to widen participation and access to higher education for young people from underrepresented backgrounds. My expertise in forensic anthropology stems from my PhD at UCL, where I developed and validated 3D photogrammetry methods for the analysis of sharp-force trauma in forensic investigations. This innovative research has contributed to the advancement of forensic science and the integration of forensic anthropology with other disciplines. I also have several publications focussed on the suitability of 3D research in archaeology, anthropology, and forensic science and received an award for my research. In addition to my role at Make Happen Essex, I provide adhoc forensic anthropology advice in disaster response and mass fatality incidents as a Team Member at Kenyon International Emergency Services, and share my knowledge and experience with the Forensic Sciences BSc students as a Guest Lecturer at London South Bank University. I am always eager to learn new skills, collaborate with other professionals, and apply my expertise to make a positive impact in the world.
