About Sidney Siu

Dr. Sidney R. Siu, MD, FRCPC, ABOM, FCBOM, FACOEM, DABOT, CIME, C.I.H, P.Eng, CAME, MME, B.A.Sc, D.I.H, FAIHA Dr. Siu has a BSc in chemical engineering and worked as a professional engineer in the petrochemical industry before completing his medical degree at the University of Toronto in 1982. He went on to obtain an FRCPC in occupational medicine and obtained certification from the American Board of Preventive Medicine in Occupational Medicine. He is a Certified Toxicologist by the American Board of Toxicology and a Certified Industrial Hygienist. He is a fellow of the American Industrial Hygiene Association and active in the Emergency Response Planning Guideline Committee. He is currently a member of the BioAerosols Working Group (BAWG) with the Canadian Standards Association for the Respirator Selection Guidelines (CAN/CSA- Z94.4). He was the medical consultant at the Ministry of Labour for 13 years and now provides consultations and expert opinions to industry, workers, law enforcement agencies, compensation boards, universities, hospitals, and lawyers. In the 1980s, he participated in an extensive study on latex allergy and health care workers. He served as the chair of the Occupational Health Section of the Ontario Medical Association (OMA)(2002-2004), during which time, he was heavily involved with pandemic planning related to SARS and was recently awarded a lifetime membership by the OMA. He was the president of the Occupational and Environmental Association of Canada (OEMAC) from 2014-2015 and is currently a board member of the Canadian Board of Occupational Medicine (CBOM) and member of the Occupational Medicine Society of Canada (OMSOC.) He is an adjunct professor at Western University and a tutor for the Foundation Course in Occupational Medicine at the University of Alberta. In his free time, he acts as a Coroner for the Province of Ontario.
