Background

About Sierra Berry

Skilled environmental educator with a dedication to building science identity and belonging in diverse, urban communities. Mission-oriented, strategic thinker. Empathetic colleague and supervisor. Believer in the power of field trips and impact of community connectors. A graduate of Texas State University with a Bachelors of Science in Biology and minors in Nature and Heritage Tourism and Honors Studies, I am now a Masters of Arts in Teaching Biology student in Miami University's unique Advanced Inquiry Program. This hybrid program works with zoos around the country to offer community learning opportunities that focus on professional development in conservation biology and formal/informal education. Former member and leader in the FFA, I also have a strong interest in urban agriculture and sustainable, accessible food systems and waterways. My time spent in The Wildlife Society expanded my understanding of ecosystems and built my plant and animal identification skills. And my tenure as a veterinary technician gave me practical skills in the lab, in animal husbandry, and in compassionate client services. My adaptability and curiosity, combined with strong research, public-speaking, and written communication skills, have carried me through my scholastic and professional experiences thus far. I am excitedly advancing my career in informal education in such institutions as parks, natural history museums, science centers, zoos, and aquariums. I've grown tremendously in the last five years at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science and look forward to continue that growth in the years to come!
