About Sigrid Beckmann

With over 30 years of experience in design, communications, and entrepreneurship, I am passionate about creating positive social and environmental impact through education and art. I am the founder and director of Indigo Life, a non-profit organization that aims to inspire and empower young people to become responsible stewards of our oceans and climate. I am also the managing partner and co-founder of Kóokay, a Mexican enterprise that showcases the beauty and diversity of Mexican artcrafts, while supporting local communities and women artisans. At Indigo Life, I lead a team of educators, sailors, artists, and environmentalists who design and deliver innovative programs and campaigns that engage young audiences in the pursuit of sustainable development, the fight against ocean plastic pollution, and climate action. We leverage the power of storytelling, sailing, and experiential learning to ignite the spark of change and create momentum for a more resilient and inclusive future. Some of our projects include Blue Mind, a project that raises awareness and funds for ocean conservation, the 2023 Optimist World Championship which achieves all 17 United Nations 2023 goals, IODA´s ROPE program based on peer-to-peer youth action partnering social responsability and circularity actions, and a gamified online platform that challenges students to take action for the ocean. At Kóokay, I apply my expertise in graphic design, strategy, and marketing to create unique and functional pieces that reflect the magic and culture of Mexico, while empowering and helping local craftspeople, mostly women, to become an independent workforce and build up their communities. We work closely with our partners and clients to ensure quality, authenticity, and sustainability, and we are now exporting to Europe and the United States.
