About Silas Johnson

I am a third-year Bachelor of Commerce student at the DeGroote School of Business, passionate about leadership, entrepreneurship, and making an impact both inside and outside the classroom. I’m currently involved in the DeGroote Commerce Society as part of the VP External team, where I help bridge the gap between students and industry professionals through outreach and corporate engagement. During my first two years of university, I ran my own business through the Student Works Management Program, generating over in revenue across two summers and serving more than 200 clients. I recruited, trained, and managed a team of 10 employees, and developed systems to streamline marketing, sales, and service delivery. This experience taught me how to lead under pressure, manage client relationships, and drive results, all while balancing full-time studies. Outside of academics and business, I’m the lead singer and rhythm guitarist for a rock band I co-founded in university. I handle the majority of our songwriting, booking, social media, and marketing. Since launching the band, we’ve played multiple live shows, grown our audience through strategic content creation, and developed a strong reputation within the McMaster music scene, including a standout performance at Battle of the Bands. My work with the band reflects my ability to lead creative projects, coordinate teams, and bring ideas to life under tight timelines. Before university, I worked full-time at Contrans Flatbed during my gap year to fund my education. As part of their tarp crew, I was responsible for safely securing drywall shipments for CGC Inc, learning valuable skills in logistics and team coordination. I also held a part-time role at Tim Hortons throughout high school, where I developed strong communication and service skills in a fast-paced environment. During high school, I graduated as an Ontario Scholar and was named Junior Male Athletic MVP in 2019 for my involvement in rugby, football, badminton, cross country, and track. I also served on student council for three years, helping plan school events and running for Prime Minister in my senior year. Today, I’m actively seeking opportunities where I can apply my business acumen, creative drive, and leadership experience, particularly in marketing, talent acquisition, business development, or strategy.
