About Silvia Danielak

Silvia Danielak is a Postdoctoral Fellow at Georgetown University's Earth Commons Institute for Environment and Sustainability. She obtained her Ph.D. from the Department of Urban Studies and Planning at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Silvia studies socio-spatial planning in the context of violent conflict, disaster risk and climate change and it's intersection with peacekeeping and peacebuilding, especially in urban settings. Her previous research on infrastructure and mobility, natural hazards, and migration in urban conflicts is published in, among other, Peacebuilding, International Peacekeeping, Disasters, and Third World Thematics. Silvia has more than ten years of professional experience in international development, governance and conflict prevention across Africa, Europe and Central Asia. Prior to joining academia, she served as conflict prevention advisor to the African Union Border Programme, based in Addis Ababa, and worked on peace infrastructures and mediation in Kyrgyzstan. Silvia holds a Master in Design Studies, Risk and Resilience from Harvard University, a MA in International Security from Sciences Po Paris and a BA in European Studies from Maastricht University.
