About Silvio Zerbi

I am an Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Consultant with relevant experience in managing and caring for critical patients. I have dedicated over 15 years to the Intensive Care Department at the University Hospital 'ASST Sette Laghi' in Varese, a highly specialized regional trauma center—one of the largest in northern Italy. Since 2009, I have served as Trauma Leader, overseeing the hospital Trauma Team's response to patients experiencing traumatic events. Annually, our department handles approximately 1,200 admissions of critical patients, including around 500 trauma cases and 100 major trauma cases. Our service also coordinates the complex organization during multi-organ harvesting in brain-dead patients and DCD donors. Throughout thirteen of those years, I've complemented my work in the Intensive Care Unit and the Emergency Department's Shock-Room by serving as an emergency physician in pre-hospital settings. My educational pursuits have extended to a long-standing passion for diving: I qualified as Diving and Hyperbaric Specialist after obtaining the International II level Master's Degree in Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine from the University of Padua and I got also the Medical Examiner of Divers International Qualification and the Certificate in Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine, LEVEL 2H, issued by the European College of Baromedicine of the National Research Council (IFC - Institute of Clinical Physiology), accredited by the Diving Medical Advisory Committee (DMAC). I am also a lecturer in Hyperbaric and Diving Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Insubria-Varese, as well as at the specialization schools for Anesthesia and Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine. From 2024 I have been attending a new master's program at the University of Padua in Avionic and Aerospace Medicine. I am open-minded, pragmatic, and a problem solver, with strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills. In my free time, I am a proud father of two wonderful children, a photographer, and the curator of the traveling exhibition "Intensive Care Shots, Pandemia 2020-2022." Additionally, I enjoy playing chess, writing books, and playing blues on the saxophone.
