About Simon Baeckens
I am an evolutionary ecologist studying how, and how fast, animals respond to (human-induced) environmental change. My research is heavily field-based and combines behavioral, ecological, physiological, functional morphological, and phylogenetic approaches to understand (adaptive) modifications of complex phenotypes to major disruptions. I combine experimental and comparative observational methods, with reptiles serving as my primary model organisms. I am as dedicated to quality education as I am to my research pursuits. I teach courses on evolution and organismal biology, and supervise the thesis work of several PhD and MSc students.
