About Simon Beatty

Mr. Simon C. Beatty is a full-time faculty member at Appleby College in Oakville, Ontario where he teaches courses in Social Science, International Business and Entrepreneurship. He coaches soccer, acts as an advisor to students, and co-directs the Round Square program at the school. He previously worked in academic boarding-school environments at Brentwood College School (British Columbia) and Ridley College (Ontario) where he managed a boarding house, taught social science, and coached high-performance rowing. He also brought his passion for Public Speaking, Debate, and Model UN to those institutions and lead numerous national and international trips for students. Mr. Beatty previously worked as Upper School Director at Class Afloat, an experiential education sailing program for students that travels to 20+ ports throughout Europe, Africa, and South America, crossing the Atlantic Ocean under sail. Prior to that, he held the International Teaching Chair of History and Social Studies at Neuchatel Junior College in Switzerland. He also worked in the history departments at Canadian College Italy, Colegio Los Nogales in Bogota, Colombia; and St. John's-Kilmarnock School in Ontario, Canada. Mr. Beatty is conversational in French and Spanish, and has a Diploma of Independent School Leadership from the Canadian Accredited Independent Schools (CAIS) Leadership Institute. He is a certified Level 2 instructor in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program for IB History. Mr. Beatty has also been a member of Accreditation Committees for CAIS schools, and has been a member of the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) since 1998, and the BC College of Teachers (BCCT) since 2014. His publications include "Canadian Attitudes Toward Welfare: A Political Analysis" for which he was awarded the Pollara Book Prize in Political Science from the University of Toronto. Mr. Beatty received his B.Ed. and B.A. in Political Science and Economics from the University of Toronto.
