About Simon Benten

I have a background in environmental studies and countryside management having started my career as a Countryside Ranger. I moved into computing with a view to work with GIS but became a software developer. I have over twenty years’ experience working in the computing industry and have worked on all aspects of software development, from requirements gathering to technical specification, UX design to back-end database design. I have worked as a front-end developer, team lead for several agile development teams and software analyst. Work life went a little leftfield by becoming the main carer for my young family. During this time, I undertook an MSc in Applied GIS and worked with several GIS programs working with disparate datasets and produced a Python plugin for QGIS. I have since returned to work as a software developer for VeloViewer.
