About Simon Brise

Currently working at BBC News Location Facilities (maintaining equipment & supporting newsgathering operations, primarily its fleet of 100+ ENG file based Sony xdcam cameras). I previously worked in BBC News & Current Affairs [Lime Grove], Broadcast Hire Engineering [VMI], IT User Support [DHL], Electronics Design, Radio comms, a Studio Cameraman & Video Editor [SKY attheraces] & Freelance teacher [Ravensbourne]. While teaching (Video Editing, Web Design & Emerging Technology) I enjoyed trying to understand technology & being able to help others understand it. In broadcast hire or user support for example I responded to customer technical questions. In maintenance I enjoy the creative challenge of diagnosing & resolving faults. I began my career in 1982 as a BBC Broadcast Engineer working in News & Current affairs at Lime Grove & TV Centre [special facilities, studio, MCR / Satellite, computer graphics, VTR, telecine, lighting & racks operations & maintenance, PSC / OB news truck], changed in 1988 to being self employed & designed engine management systems for racing engines. In 1997 I moved to a Radio Comms / IT User Support role at DHL. I then moved to VMI broadcast hire as principle maintenance engineer in Going creative, I then moved into Studio Camera work & Video Editing for Sky and channel 4 (2002). After a brief period at Express shopping Channel, I moved into media & creative teaching work in 2005 at Ravensbourne College, Richmond (RACC) & UCCA (research work). A qualified teacher in 2008, I delivered courses at Richmond Business School, in video editing & web design using ‘moodle’. I also take on special effects projects such as (dec 2008) rotating camera assemblies for prodigy concert at the Brixton academy. I love to be creative, to design & understand technology.
