Simon currently serves as Chairman of Genomics plc, a pioneering healthcare company that develops proprietary innovative precision healthcare tools and brings new insights to drug discovery. In addition, he is a Non-executive Director of WPP plc (the global creative transformation company), Vodafone Plc (a leading telecoms operator in Europe and Africa), where he also chairs the audit committee, and Avantor Inc (a supplier of products and services to the life science and technology industries)Between 2020 and 2024 he worked closely with The Carlyle Group, based in London, where he was a partner and then Senior Advisor with a focus on healthcare and the UK. For Carlyle, he served on the boards and chairs of a number of its portfolio companies, including also serving until late 2025 as the independent Chairman of Calastone, the largest funds network serving the fund management industrySimon has extensive operational and financial experience working in and with both public and private companies through his experience as CFO and Main Board member of GlaxoSmithKline plc for over 8 years (2011 - 2019) and from his 25 years in investment banking, initially with S.G. Warburg and then at Goldman Sachs. At Goldman Sachs, he became a managing Director and then Partner for 10 years as a leader of the European M&A business and Head of UK investment banking before moving to GSK at the end of 2010.As CFO for GlaxoSmithKline, Simon was responsible for Global Finance and several of GSK's other key support functions including Technology, Data and Analytics as well as Global Procurement and all of its Real Estate footprint. Over more than 8 years, He led and sponsored a number of significant change programmes for the company including the end-to-end replacement of the Group's ERP systems, substantial restructuring to reduce costs and improve operational flexibility as well as a number of significant strategic transactions across the group’s three main businesses: pharmaceuticals, vaccines and consumer health.At Goldman Sachs, Simon led a number of the Firm’s most significant corporate relationships in the UK and advised on a wide range of transactions across a number of sectors including Healthcare, Telecoms, Consumer, Industrial, Defence and Retail.Simon served as Chairman of the accounting regulator, the Financial Reporting Council, in 2019/20. He previously also served as Chairman of the 100 Group which represents the views of the Finance Directors of companies in the FTSE 100 and a number of other large Private UK companies.
