About Simon Gibson

As the Managing Director of AUS, a business I set up in 1998, my key concern is directing and developing the company to safeguard its future and that of the staff. Working in the Electrical Supply Industry, rail sector, arboriculture and telecoms, I understand the importance of supplying high-quality products and services, and providing training, inspections and maintenance to ensure the health and safety of our customers and their workforce.I take a methodical, common sense approach to running a business, and always deal honestly with customers, staff and suppliers. Having worked within the utilities and electrical sectors all my life, I have a great deal of industry knowledge, which is invaluable in my current role.Taking responsibility and showing leadership skills are an essential part of being a company director and I’m always prepared to make decisions and work out strategies for taking the company forward. This came to the fore in 2012 when we brought a lot of our manufacturing in house: it was a major decision to invest several hundred thousand pounds in new machinery and in people, but it has paid for itself in improved response times and quality control. My door is always open to staff and I’m a strong believer in recognising good work and giving credit where it’s due. If a member of staff goes the extra mile, they will be rewarded; I also like to promote from within where possible. Having come up through a traditional apprenticeship programme myself, I understand the benefits of taking on school-leavers as apprentices and turning them into productive staff who add value to the company.As a born-and-bred Yorkshireman, I’m committed to keeping the company in the West Yorkshire area, which is conveniently located for our activities supplying the ESI, rail, arboriculture and telecoms industries across the UK.
