About Simon Johnson
In my current role, I am working as a PDRA in the Denton Group at the University of Nottingham in the GSK Carbon Neutral Laboratories. Following submission of my PhD thesis entitled:"Synthesis of 2-deoxy mucin-type O-glycans as biological probes" in September 2022, I worked as a Research Chemist at Charnwood Discovery until December 2023. For my PhD, I worked with Professor M. Carmen Galan at the University of Bristol on the development of novel stereoselective syntheses of 2-deoxyglycosides and other complex oligosaccharides for use as biological probes. I was part of the Chemical Synthesis Centre for Doctoral Training (2018 Cohort). An alumnus of the University of Birmingham, having graduated with a Class 1 MSci (Hons) degree in Chemistry with Industrial Experience in July 2018. I spent my third year working for F. Hoffmann-La Roche AG in Basel, Switzerland in Pharma Research and Early Development as an internship student, with the work I undertook now being displayed on an international patent.
