About Simon Joseph Ochieng

Simon Joseph Ochieng has over 25 years work experience, 14 of which have been in implementing a number of national programmes, in a diversity of programmes especially in integrated rural development initiatives. His technical training is principally Project Planning and Monitoring, Rural development Economics, and associated rural livelihoods initiatives. In his early career, Mr. Ochieng has extensive experience in integrated rural development programmes with broad based livelihoods activities related to rural poverty reduction with special focus on community empowerment, mobilization of farmer organizations and strengthening of their participatory skills and HIV/AIDS. He became the M&E Officer leading the National Smallholder Horticulture Marketing Programme for Kenya (2007-2014), under Ministry of Agriculture. He has substantially participated in Programme Management, Monitoring and Evaluation of rural projects. His assignments related to M&E have focused with a keen bias to Managing for Impact using M&E Systems designs and operationalisation, and Gender Monitoring in Agriculture. Outside GOK and IFAD, and other major institutionally supported programmes, he has supported other NGOs in advising the management of food security & livelihoods programs, agricultural, and HIV/AIDS. He is also a part time lecture on Project Management at Jomo Kenyatta University College of Agriculture and Technology, Nakuru, Kenya. Just before concluding his Masters in 2006, he was engaged as District Development Officer for 10 years, where he assisted in coordinating the Farmer Groups Community Support programme, supported by IFAD, assisted in effective decentralization of planning and budgeting process from the departments in the district through the District Focus for Rural Development Strategy, coordinated funding and implementation of projects identified by local communities in Poverty Alleviation, HIV/AIDS and Constituency Development Fund.
