About Simon Kemper

Simon C. Kemper is the data engineer at the National Archives of the Netherlands (NAN). In this role, he developed a virtual archival assistant that, through extensive data enrichment, answers questions about the past. This assistant uses inventories, indexes, and transcriptions from the NAN’s collections as well as relevant external sources. The application features a custom context augmentation pipeline designed to answer user questions by directly referencing verified archival data. He initiated and led multiple digitization and data mining programs and collaborated with the National Archives of Indonesia, the National Library of the Netherlands, the Rijksmuseum, Delft University Library, the ARSARI Djojohadikusumo Foundation, and the British Library.
