About Simon Laws

I am a senior academic and research leader focused on advancing precision medicine through genomics-informed approaches, with a particular emphasis on neurodegeneration and Alzheimer’s disease. My research has attracted over $31M in competitive funding, resulted in more than 200 peer-reviewed publications, and holds an h-index of 55. Alongside my research portfolio, I have held major academic leadership roles — including Associate Dean (Medical and Exercise Sciences) and Director of ECU’s Centre for Precision Health — where I’ve led multidisciplinary teams, shaped strategic priorities, and managed complex operational responsibilities. I currently chair ECU’s Human Research Ethics Committee and the university-wide Research Professoriate Group, and have held executive positions in national and international research collaborations, including as Deputy Chief Scientific Officer of a Cooperative Research Centre. As a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (MAICD), I bring a governance-informed perspective to research leadership — one that values integrity, strategic alignment, and building high-performing research cultures. I’m passionate about enabling people, partnerships, and programs that deliver lasting impact.
