Background

About Simon Malzard

Physicist, mathematician, computer scientist, data scientist, tinkerer and experimenter. Irrespective of the topic I love a challenge and I'm not scared to start to make in impact in a new domain. Over my extensive scientific career I have managed many projects and stakeholders in both research and commercial settings, lectured, mentored PhD Students, Masters' students and colleagues and provided consultancy on numerous projects. I am looking for machine learning and AI roles in the areas computer vision, time series forecasting or quantum machine learning. From my most recent work here are a few highlights: As an AI research associate at The Alan Turing Institute I have • Developed skeleton based human action recognition deep learning tools (high-dimensional time series) with a focus on degraded data environments, transitioning existing tools into more realistic real-world settings. • Co-developed computer vision models with improved automatic-target recognition using synthetic data generation in gaming engines (Unity). With focus on using explainable AI to design the synthetic data models to reduce confusion between different target classes. • Co-developed a semi-supervised framework for anomaly detection on images in training-time and test-time adversarial settings. Prior to this I have extensive experience in the modelling of quantum mechanical systems, topological zero modes in relation to quantum computing and optimal information transfer in waveguides, and quantum chaos. Keywords: machine learning, deep learning, AI, human action recognition, rough path theory, computer vision, time series analysis, synthetic data, explainable AI, research, Monte Carlo, quantum mechanics, quantum computing
