About Simon Peter Okiring

I am a seasoned development specialist with 12 years’ experience in policy development, trade promotion and facilitation, business & institutional development, partnership management and conflict resolution acquired while working with Government and donor funded organizations, including Chemonics International, International Alert and Uganda Export Promotion Board. I have extensive working experience with both public and private sector institutions who are the main beneficiaries of development work. I have also coordinated integration programs within the framework of East African Community (EAC). I am a Certified Enterprise Development Consultant with International Trade Centre supporting trade and export development, and a member of the UNCTAD network of Trade and Gender Alumni. I have facilitated development of policies, strategies, Regulatory Impact Assessments (RIAs), designed and coordinated evaluations, coordinated capacity building, conducted training in: trade development and promotion; standards and conflict management/resolution. Among the key strategies I have facilitated develope include the National Coffee Export Strategy and the National Export Strategy - Gender Dimension, which mainstreams women into the export sector. I have made several presentations on gender mainstreaming in Trade at national and international fora. My technical training in globalization has equipped me with the skills needed to successfully navigate the challenges faced by government and support the private sector to become more efficient and competitive.
