About Simon Potter

I have been working in IT in the Education sector for approx 16 years, initially in the UK and for the last 10 Years in Australia. During that time I have moved from Technical Supports roles into Helpdesk Management and now as an IT Manager in a High School that has a significant technology focus. Throughout my time I have worked with a range of technologies including: Novell Netware, Novell Directory Services, Novell SuSe, Novell ZenWorks, Novell Groupwise, Microsoft AD, Microsoft Servers, VMWare, OS X Server, OS X Desktop and CasperSuite. I have also been responsible for infrastructure in both of my most recent roles managing core network, wireless and server infrastructure. Significant projects to date have been: Implementation email system for students (Groupwise), migration from Novell Netware to Novell Suse Linux, staged upgrade of fibre technology in school to 10GB, implementation of VMWare including hardware provisioning and install, managed switch upgrade projects, implemented campus wide wireless network, adoption of 1:1 laptop scheme for 1600 students across two sites and managed the transition from Windows environment to Apple OSX. In 2013 also managed the successful implementation of Google Apps for Education at Waverley providing a collaboration platform that could be taken into the classroom and also the adoption of Gmail as school email solution.
