About Simon Robson
I am a BAFTA nominated multi-award winning animation and live-action director working in commercials and film. My first short film, ‘What Barry Says’ screened at festivals all over the world, winning best animation awards at The Brooklyn International Film Festival and The London Portobello Film Festival. I was signed with Nexus Productions in 2005 as a commercials director. There I directed worldwide campaigns for, Mars, Nike, Save The Children and Adidas where I filmed some of the world’s greatest footballers for an energetic live-action / animation spot. In 2006 I was invited to direct the animation for British documentary maker Chris Atkins’ explosive polemic Taking Liberties, which was nominated for a BAFTA in 2007. Between Autumn 2008 and Summer 2010, I conceived, directed and produced the collaborative issue film ‘Coalition of the willing’, an optimistic polemic film which imagined a collaborative solution to climate change. ‘Coalition of the willing’ won the Grand Jury award at the Hamiltons Animatron film festival and best short-film awards at Flickerfest and The San Francisco Green Film Festival. It became part of the British Design of the year exhibition at the London Design Museum. The Guardian newspaper also launched Coalition of the willing on its website. My recent commercial work includes directing commercial campaigns for Chartered Accountants ANZ (D & AD awarded for best animation) Taubmans, McDonalds, Specsavers and reMarkable. I have spoken at some of the best renowned design and animation conferences in the world, including F5, and SPAA. As a freelance director, I create highly-crafted visual commercial work with strong creatives both here in Australia and throughout the world.
