About Simon Sandy-Hindmarch

A passion for all things musical led me to study for my first degree in Music Technology and Production. Here i learnt all the skills required to record and produce music and audio to an industry standard, as well as gaining a key understanding in DSP and Acoustics. After completion of this degree i started freelance recording and production for bands and artists as well as becoming production director for 'The Wantsum Brewery LTD'. During my time there as well as being responsible for running the production side of the brewery, i also had to learn how to maintain and repair some of the electronic/mechanical brewing equipment. These new skills paired with my continuing use of electronic musical hardware for music recording/production, led me to develop an interest into how this type of equipment is designed and manufactured. This ultimately led to me going back to university to study for my second degree in Electronics with Music and Audio Systems at QMUL. This course has taught me among others, vital skills in Circuit Analysis, DSP, Musical Analysis, C/C++, HCI and Interaction Design. During my studies i started working part time at a small record label and radio station called 'House 559 Music'. Here i am responsible for running and maintaining equipment as well as the mixing/mastering of all the tracks to be released through the label. This environment also gave me my idea for my final year project which was focused around editing and segmenting audio to be used in a live setting. Due to the types of people coming through the radio station, i was also able to take a completely user centred design approach. The success of this project has subsequently led me to designing and producing personalised digital audio effects in my spare time for the users involved and other resident DJ's and producers of the radio station.
