Apprenticed, but never finished - the factory got *Thatchered* and all our jobs went with it. Degree in mech eng 1986; a designer until '89; re-skilled from 1990 to begin enjoying theory and software for finite element methods. These days looking at lossy media, and also to use finite element (and related) codes for generating virtual training data for deep neural nets. This interest stemmed from a research project in non-invasive diagnosis of Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) and after many years of effort this is now reaching commercial reality through Nilocas Ltd (nilocas.com). Fellow of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA) and Chartered Mathematician. Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (since 1 July 2001, formerly a member of the ILT). Member of: The London Mathematical Society (LMS); The American Mathematical Society (AMS); The Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM); The Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE); The Institute of Engineering Designers (IED); and registered as a Chartered Engineer with the Engineering Council.
