About Simon Shepherd

I work at the intersection of deep tech, engineering, and AI, contributing to the shift towards zero-emission energy and transport systems. At Monumo, we're applying machine learning and simulation to electric motor design to improve performance, reduce development time, and lower costs. Over the past 20 years in advanced propulsion R&D, I've found that staying close to the technical detail—high-speed machines, energy storage, electrified engines, hypercar powertrain, — helps inform better strategic and commercial decisions. EXPERIENCE & APPROACH I enjoy bridging technical work with strategic and commercial thinking, whether that's working through complex engineering problems or shaping new product and business opportunities. I've had the opportunity to lead multi-disciplinary teams and work with industry, academia, and investors on various projects. During my time at C-ALPS, the team grew from 17 to 40 people and the portfolio expanded from £600k to £6M. At DSD, I established the electrified powertrain capability, which developed into a commercially important part of the business ahead of acquisition.
