About Simon Sweeney

I'm a Reader in International Political Economy and Business at the University of York, and former Director of PG Programmes in York Management School. My doctoral research was on EU defence and security, bureaucracy and strategy. I have research interests in EU security and defence policy and European integration. I've worked as a consultant member of the UK Bologna Experts Committee, and for the Higher Education Academy as a Senior Fellow and Associate, and for individual HEIs at home and abroad. The Bologna Process aims to consolidate and develop the principles and practice of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). I have a career-long commitment to internationalisation of higher education, both as a former UK Bologna expert and as an international student exchange coordinator at York. My pedagogical and scholarship interests include the use of social capital in diverse classroom settings as a benefit to teaching and learning. Internationalisation embraces internationalism, environmental sustainability, and promoting the university as an institution dedicated to the public good.
