About Simon Tans

Radboud University, Teaching and Learning Centre and Faculty of Law Educational innovator, senior lecturer and expert on EU internal market law and international trade liberalization. Our world is rapidly changing and the pace of change is increasing. Education needs to deliver professionals that are capable of adapting, working in changing environments and in interdisciplinary teams. I strive to deliver this education in reality through an Online Digital Learning Environment, assigning students professional roles in interactive case based learning, expeditionary learning and above all, letting students work on complex real life problem. Make them experience they have a part to play. I research the complex triangle of EU law, international trade law and the implementation of norms into the national legal order in light of the right to regulate (migration and labour market policies and environmental policies). I have written expert reports (EU Commission, WTO secretariat), a monograph, various edited volumes, am part of a team that has written a handbook designed for first year students EU law, various articles, blogs and case notes. I lecture on EU internal market law, EU environmental law, international trade law and investment arbitration. I adore lecturing, whether in a small tutorial setting or in front of 600 first year students. I have designed interdisciplinary courses (Interdisciplinary Approach to Nature Conservation; Design of Justice), an extracurricular talent program (Law in Action), an online examination system (without use of surveillance video).
